The Four Stroke Types
“UP”
Review the common mistakes to avoid on the sheet below. It’s important that the student keeps the wrist “loose and floppy” when turning the wrist up quickly.
Tell the students to expect the listed mistakes, and remind them that they are supposed to make them! Then remind them that thinking about them consistently will lead them to improve.
Make sure the students say the “action word” out loud when they play (“up”).
This verbalization out loud is an absolute must. The action word language is a central component to the students learning process.
