Colin offers lessons to all students age 5 and above in all of the following area's of music education:
Private Concert Percussion Lessons
Snare - Timpani - Keyboards
Percussion lessons are designed to not only teach the percussionist the skills needed to perform, but the skills to become a MUSICIAN. Students will learn to read music, write music, and will learn percussive techniques and styles from all over the world.
Students of the Snare and Timpani will learn proper technique, rudiments and applicable skills necessary for proper performance.
Students studying keyboards will learn 2 mallet and 4 mallet techniques. They will study contemporary mallet literature and will learn the unique approach to the instrument. They will build the skills to be successful in their school percussion program and beyond into college as well.
Drumset Lessons
Interested in drumset? The student will not only bring in CD's of their favorite music and learn how to perform that style, but they will study jazz, Latin, rock, and funk drumming as well. Drumset students will be able to take this exposure to many different styles and incorporate it into their own playing.
Music Theory
Music Theory students are accepted at any level of experience, from beginner to advanced. Students will have each lesson catered to their individual needs and interests so that they can not only learn the academic side of theory, but the practical as well. Students will learn the building blocks of tonality in scales, chords, chord progressions, music analysis, and ear training. Any student of any skill level or instrument will see their musical skills flourish once they learn the "language" of music.
Composition Lessons
Composition students will learn how to make the music in their head a reality. Students will bring in music that they appreciate and will analyze it to see what makes it what it is. From there, students will begin working on their own pieces and will learn techniques to bring new life and color into their own pieces. Have a student that loves to strum a guitar, write lyrics, and make songs? These lessons are for that student.
